Change chef server nginx ssl port

When trying to install a chef server using chef itself, I stumbled over this great cookbook. It was a breeze installing a chef server with it.

After the first times installing the chef server in an image, I wanted to change the port of the nginx web server from 443 (the default port) to 8443. This can be done by adding the following line to the file

/etc/chef-server/chef-server.rb

as described here.

The cookbook contains the attribute “configuration” for modifying this file. After experimenting with this attribute I found the correct syntax to use for adding the line to the configuration file:

It looks a little bit strange but worked out fine…
